BBC Radio 1 just previewed the third track from her still untitled upcoming album. XXXO, like Born Free, is not what you’d normally expect from M.I.A., yet the two songs are also very dissimilar. All these new sounds from M.I.A. are just raising our anticipation for the release of the full album. One thing that we can expect will be similar to her past albums is that it will be a quality album.

One other sound you might find familiar is the backing music for Born Free, it features the 1977 Suicide track, Ghostrider.

In line with M.I.A.’s extravagant style, the daughter of Sri Lanken political activists has released information for the release of her third album via a blimp to promote during Jay-Z’s Coachelle performance.

As well promoting tour around the US, the blimp read; “New Album 6.29.10”. Diplo has already described the forthcoming album as “Gucci mane meets Animal Collective” and with Blaqstarr producing, the new album is set to be maybe a little more crazy than the last, with M.I.A. focusing more on singing than rapping like we’d expect…and a “punk thing”…

Sounds likes this will be a little all over the place, digging for inspiration for many unexpected places, creating many unfamiliar and unexpected sounds…but isn’t this what’s to be expected from M.I.A.? It’s certainly one thing to be loved about M.I.A. as she creates music for herself, not her fans, that is, in turn, loved by her fans. We can’t wait for a taste!

M.I.A. – Bamboo Banger

M.I.A. – There’s Space For Ol Dat I See

M.I.A. – XR2

After almost three years wait, M.I.A. is set to release her third album this year. Although the album is yet to be named, she did twitter a new song, sure to feature on the album, a few days ago. Give it a listen and wet your appetite for what’s to come.
