Best Remixes Ever Part 3

29 May

This is the first and final installment of our favourite remixes, yep, these are the big boys, our absolute favourites amongst favourites. Enjoy.

The Kills – Cheap and Cheerful (Fake Blood Remix) It was the remix that started many but none could come close to Fake Blood’s perfectly constructed remix of Cheap and Cheerful.

Little Boots – Love Kills (Sidechains vs Buffetlibre Remix) Little Boots has been the target of many remixes and most of them are quite decent; this one though, is more than decent. A powerful electro transformation wins this a place amongst the best.

Frankmusik – Three Little Words (Louises Lovers Remix) Couldn’t find a link for this, but it still deserves to be here. Very and catchy and quite cute.

Mystyery Jets – Half In Love With Elizabeth (Foamo Remix) One of his first works, this has one of the meanest basslines drops I’ve heard.

Pixie Lott – Mama Do (Linus Loves Remix) Beware; this song has a tendency to grow on you. A slightly different taste to the usual on JeDanse, more of a house-tech sound but very addictive and great for drunken dancing (and singing along).

DIOYY – Dawn Of The Dead (Station X) The original is great, but Station X give it that extra kick to make it one of your favourites, one of our most listened to.

Loose Canons – La La La (I’m Not Listening) (Arabain Barmitzvah) Another one we couldn’t find a link for but well worth the listen. It’s been one of our favourite electro works for a while.

Sia – Girl You Lost To Cocaine (Stonebridge Vocal Edit) This has got more of a trance sound but it’s amazing. Every build up and verse it built perfectly.

Justice – Pantom II (Boys Noize Unreleased Turbine) One of the most effective constructed remixes we’ve ever heard, it builds up anticipation so well before it drops the bass.

Annie – Anthonio (Designer Drugs Remix) This isn’t one of Designers Drugs usual electro remixes, it’s much more tech driven but it features crafty vocal distortion and a powerful bass beat in the back. Probably their best remix

Fiest – 1,2,3,4 (Van She Technologic Remix) One of the boys’ first remixes and definitely the one made us fall in love with them. Already such a feel good track, Van She make it a club track that puts you in a great mood everytime you listen without fail.

Fever Ray – Seven (Crookers Remix) Their best remix by far, this is so cleverly constructed that the Crookers give this track a whole new life with their techy-electro sound.

Chromeo – Fancy Footwork (Death To The Throne Rerendered) Such an amazing remix, with an intense electro bass backing.

Little Boots – Stuck On Repeat (Fake Blood Remix) We mentioned that Little Boots was the target of many good remixes, and Fake Blood are amazing remixes so it makes sense that our last remix is a combination of the two. This is the song that launched Little Boots; one of the most effective indie-pop songs ever, Fake Blood are careful to do this justice with their electro re-edit.

Best Ever Remixes Part 2

27 May

^^Sweden’s famous Ice Hotel.

Now for our second edition of JeDanse’s favourite remixes, the electro edition. Turning some of your favourite songs and perhaps not so favourite songs into instant (and sometimes trashy) club hits.

Public Enemy – Bring The Noise (Benny Benassi Re-edit) it won the French electro wizard a Grammy and with good reason. The disgustingly talented Benny Benassi always wows us with his fool proof remix style.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (Ryan Nexus Remix) it was A-Trak’s remix that received most of the acclaim out of the many remixes of this track that circulated, however this is the one that we find far more enjoyable to listen to, the clear winner hands down.

The xx – Infinity (Christian TV Bootleg) this remix is amazing. It keeps to the song’s chilled out nature whilst building an underlying anticipation for a electro beat, but is still predominantly an indie-tech hit.

Metronomy – Heartbreaker (Kris Menace Remix) A completely lovable song to begin with, Kris employs his fine tuned remixing skills to give it that something extra and make it a club classic.

Bloc Party – Two More Years ( MSTRKRFT Remix) Before the tragedy that was Fist Of God, MSTRKRFT did some remixes of more indie tracks and did them well. They followed a safe structure, take a good song and make it better. This is one that they did very well.

Lil’ Wayne – One Milli (Nadastrom Remix) Even for those of us who don’t enjoy the occasional corny American R&B dance floor hit whilst horribly drunk (and in a dancing mood), this makes this typical Billboard top 40 track into good quality electro masterpiece, that’s also a lot of fun.

The Ting Tings – Great DJ (Calvin Harris) When they first emerged, The Tings Tings became an instant remix target with DJs flinging around their versions in mass production (and sounding like mass production also), but as usual , the cream rose to the top, and (also as usual) the cream was Calvin Harris.

Of Montreal – Gallery Piece (Mintel Rose Remix) This is one of those remixes that’s just very unique. It’s hard to pick a point of comparison with any other remixes and it’s hard to attribute to it any particular genre. But whatever you want to say about it, it works very effectively.

Guns N Bombs – Riddle Of Steel (Classixx Version) One of our favourite acts to emerge out of the past twelve months, Classixx introduce a powerful and dirty bassline into this track to compliment the already alluring vocals, making the end result quite tantalizing.

Marina and the Diamonds – I Am Not A Robot (The Shoes Remix) We are absolutely obsessed with marina at the moment, and the Shoes give it all they’ve got to turn this into an electro dance anthem without doing any discredit to the song.

The Virgins – Teen Lovers (The Shoes Remix) Okay, so we forgot to mention that we’re also obsessed with the Shoes. Their electro transformations are just addictive…what more is there to say?

Milke – Love Get Out Of My Way (Designer Drugs Remix) Designer Drugs put their electro talent to this track and do what they do best, give a standard pop or indie song an electrifying electro back beat that is impossible to stand still to.

Crystal Castles – Crimewave (LA Riots) This is just a beautifully constructed electro remix of an already awesome indie synth track using every trick in the book.

Shitdisco! – 72 Virgins (Bloody Beetroots Remix) This is the first thing we heard by the Beetroots and what got us so hooked on them. And now, even after their aggressive in-your-face electro sound has become really quite annoying, this remix still stands as one of our favourites.

Kudu – Let’s Finish (Sinden Remix) Kudu tracks, whilst amazing in their original form, always seem to be quite remix friendly, easy to adapt to a new genre through the power of editing. Here, Sinden does it beautifully. Perfect for the dancefloor.

Harlem Shakes – Strictly Game (Kids At The Bar Remix) The remix of this song is practically unrecognizable from the original. The boys from Kids At The Bar give this song a completely different life, at first leading into a indie/dirty electro song, in the chorus it changes it’s tune and become quite uplifting and to great effect.

Snobscrilla – Heartbreak Scorsese (’96 Bulls Remix) Last but not least, the ’96 Bulls give this track a filthy dirty bassline, whilst keeping and emphasizing the synth to give it some awesome club energy.

Wow, that was an intense list, but stay tuned for the next edition; the best of the best.

Designer Drugs To Land Soon

17 Jan

Our favourite electro two piece is finally returning to Australian shores and we are mega pumped to have them! From New York, the guys are touring all over the world to promote their Riot/Drop Down EP out through IHEARTCOMIX record label. Their new stuff is great, although I have to admit I prefer their remixes to their original songs, but they’re still great all over. These tracks feature the usual aggressiveness of Designer Drugs with the dark undertone as well that makes them so addictive.  I missed them last time they were in Australia so looking very forward to this time. It’s a pity they’re only doing two shows, but they’re definitely not to be missed!

Designer Drugs do Make The Girl Dance

26 Sep

Make The Girl Dance

designer-drugs

One of my favourite songs of the year has been remixed by two of my favourite DJs and I am loving the result!  The duo from New York have succeeded in making an already awesome song better yet again by taking on the French electro band and you can download it here.

Also, stay tuned for a new track by Designer Drugs being released through IHEARTCOMIX records on October 27th….man that’s too long to wait!

Baby Baby Baby (Designer Drugs Remix) – Make The Girl Dance

September Favourites

24 Sep

So guys, here what we’ve been listening to throughout this first glorious month of Australian Spring;

zero7-216. Pop Art Blue – Zero 7

Finally some new stuff the UK kings of ambient, melodic pop! This one, released through RCRD LBL. It features a familiar formula that never fails to get us going; angelic vocals, folkey backing and an electronic overbeat.

toxicavenger_is-dead15. Toxic Is Dead – Toxic Avenger

Two Toxic Avenger cds will be released through IHEARTCOMIX later this month. This track has the usual aggressive and dicey electro typical of the mean and industrial sound we are used to hearing from Toxie, however, I don’t think that this song is as a good as Escape.

14. golden-filterThunderbird – The Golden Filter

Finally, a brand new track from Golden Filter! This has been a long time coming as we’ve all been waiting patiently since the smash hit album, Solid Gold. This track refers to the native legendary American creature that is meant to be all amazing and powerful. The 12′ will be out officially on November 16th through Dummy.

Au+Revoir+Simone+3062537138_b57bcce4c8_o13. Another Likely Story (Neon Indian Remix) – Au Revior Simone

We love Au Revior Simone as it is, with their dreamy and melodic vocals with soft synth backing, but Neon Indian adds another dimension to this already very funky track. The release of this song has come at a perfect time as the weather warms up it could fit quite comfortably into your soundtrack for summer.

chromeo212. Night By Night – Chromeo

Dave 1 and P-Tugg, more commonly known as Chromeo have collaborated with Green Sound Label to get out their new track, Night By Night. This is Chromeo track is as fresh and funky as usual complete even with guitar and continuous drumming back beat. Sure to get you moving.

Magic-Wands11. Warrior (XX Remix) – Magic Wands

Hailing from Nashville, Tennesse is the duo Chris and Dexy who met in 2006, but didn’t found Magic Wands until much later. Finally they have released their first EP, Magic, Love, Dreams. My favourite track off the EP has to be Warrior. There is something slightly alluring and captivating about this track and the XX do their usual thing to add an extra bit of magic to the track. Any synth-pop fan will love this.

basement-323x40010. Saga – Basement Jaxx and Santi

This is a collaboration of two of my favourite artists, so no surprise that it is an instant hit in my books. Basement Jaxx typically feature an element of fun in their tracks and Santi compliments it well with her off-reggae style of vocal. This result is a playful and upbeat sound for summer that is catchy and addictive.

YogoYogoDemo20069. I’m Not Gay (Heretic Remix) – Yogo!Yogo!

I’m not sure what to say about this track because I don’t know about it, other than that it’s very addictive and I highly recommend it. I don’t know much about the original song or what language it is, but this song is very addictive and funky and will go down a treat at 3a.m. Sunday morning.

Pance_Anime8. Skeleton (Pance Party Remix) – Felix Cartal

We are loving Pance Party here at Je Danse, with his dicey and industrial dirty electro. Skeletonwas originally released by Felix Cartal on RCRD LBL. Pance Party said that they wanted to end the summer with something nasty and this remix certainly fits that description.

chew lips7.  Salt Air (Two Door Cinema Club Remix) – Chew Lips

I only heard Chew Lip for the first time a coupe of months ago, but I can’t even begin to describe how amazing they are. Salt Air in particular is a such a great song and Two Door Cinema Club add a nice synth boost over the original relaxed back music. This song is versatile and a must for any soundtrack whether you’re getting ready to go out or chilling out the morning after a huge night out.

azzido-da-bass6. I Want U (Jence Remix) – Azzido Da Bass

Best known for his club classic Dooms Night he has now hooked up with Coco Machete Records to release the trashy electro-house dancefloor smash hit I Want U. Digitalism’s Jence provides the vocals for this track and has released his own remix of it which features the more electro-punk style that has made Digitalism instant heroes in the indie-tech world.

fakeblood5. I Think I Like It – Fake Blood

Finally Fake Blood have released another original track to replace MARS.

The latest is slightly different a sound to MARS but is becoming a favourite very quickly with more of a melodic, afrobeat tech influence. Luckily, the New York duo, Matt and Kim are returning to Australia on new years day for Field Day in Sydney, but rumours are that their tour may extend a bit.

We’re also loving their remix of Gossip’s, Love long Distance, and they main impressive the way they slip their name into every remix, which in case you didn’t know, is done solely by chopping already existing vocals from the song and piecing them together to say Fake Blood…how clever.

cover.indd4. Your Heart Feels (Designer Drugs) – Thieves Like Us

It’s no secret that we can’t resist a track, mixtape or remix by Designer Drugs and this is no exception. It’s one of DD’s more techy remixes but features the addictive build ups and anticipation before dropping a chaotic blend of emotional vocals, mind-blowing electronic bass and psychedelic riffs.

The original track from Thieves Like Us was released by Play Music and gives you charging drums and killer synth but it goes without saying that once you hear a Designer Drugs remix, you can’t go back to the original without it feeling somewhat flat and lifeless.

Boys Noize3. Jeffer – Boys Noize

I still regard the Boys Noize remix of Justice’s Phantom II to be one of the best-crafted remixes of all time, so these guys always hold a soft spot in my heart. This track is very experimental featuring a range of different sounds including scratching and what sounds almost like hitting a chopstick against teeth.

As usual, Boys Noize are able to build this song up and down and create a sense of anticipation beautifully before they drop into the upcatching chorus in full. This is an absolute delight from start to finish.

Also loving the collaborations with Erol Alkan, a surprising combi but the results are electrifying…check out the new album, out on September 26th.

kids bar2. Strictly Game (Kids At The Bar Remix) – Harlem Shakes

This song begins with a dirty bassline to get you into the mood but then catches you off guard by entering an uplifitng fusion of melodic synth and choppy vocals, but don’t worry, it’s soon to get into the electro bassline. Harlem Shakes create this track originally bouncey indie-pop tune which is awesome in its own right, but remix duo, Kids At The Bar, give it the extra oomph that makes it classic (and worthy of second spot on our chart!)

Yeah_Yeah_Yeahs1. Heads Will Roll (Ryan Nexus Remix) – The Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are always great by themselves, but when Ryan Nexus took Heads Will Roll to his decks, the result was awesome.

Nexus adds a cruel and mean bassline to the song that well complicates the vocals. He started  mixing and creating mashups in 2001 and eventually founded a break label called Systematica Records in 2006. It’s taken him a while to now make his mark with this remix.

Now, teaming up with the Yeah Yeahs Yeahs has put his name in our books, I listen to this one on repeat!
