Riva Starr Makes Lemonade

17 Feb

DJ/producer, Stefano Miele (aka Riva Starr) from Naples has gone from relatively unknown to one of the biggest new talents in electro house in under two years. During his rise to the top, he’s conjured up a fairly strong allegiance of fans including Tiesto, Carl Cox, Jesse Rose and Claude Van Stroke, some names that are always good to have backing you. Like many DJs these days, Miele made his success through blogs and offering free MP3 downloads, previously under the remixing name Snatch.

Now Miele has released his first album through Made To Play, If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade. The album features the big hit I Was Drunk, as well as Bulgarian Chicks, Black Cat, White Cat and more.

One Part Aoki and Half Beetroot

17 Feb

hottest new collaboration in the world of electro has come in the form of Steve Aoki and Bob Rifo (one half of The Bloody Beetroots). However, these two DIM MAK guys have decided to go against the electro grain and form the hardcore punk side project, Rifiko. So, traditional electro fans beware, this might not be your usual cup of tea.

This new style of music from the duo may come as less of a shock for those who have followed Steve Aoki’s signing of hardcore band All Leather to the DIM MAK label. Bloody Beetroots have also collaborated with the band in Warp 1977 and Mystery Meat.

The debut EP for Rifiko will be released on DIM MAK and April 77 records in April.

Rifiko – Sperm Donor

Rifiko – Zombie Attack

Bonus Tracks:

Bloody Beetroots ft. Pearson (of All Leather) – Warp 77

Old Blood

10 Feb

Just released on February 9th is the latest album of New York based experimental/indie band Yeasayer, Old Blood.  The band were first recognized at the SXSW festival in 2007, after which they released their first two singles, Sunrise and 2080, as well as their debut album All Hour Cymbals.

Similar to Atlas Sound and Animal Collective, Yeasayer could easily become one of the ‘it’ bands for 2010. Their dreamy electronic progressions and psychedelic backing riffs are mesmerizing to listen to and at times very catchy. Here are some of the highlights from the album, but don’t hesitate to buy the whole thing, it’s worth money.

Yeasayer – I Remember

Yeasayer – Ambling Alp

Yeasayer – O.N.E. (XXXChange Remix)
